More Research on Fonts

As a group we have been continuously talking about what font we want to use for the title sequence in our film opening. We have looked at each others research and the different fonts we have found and tried to find the best one to fit in with our film and its genre.

I really like one of the fonts George has found, I think its really simple yet effective and I feel as though it fits in with our title sequence. The typeface George researched was used in the title sequence for the UK Crime Drama "The Intent", the typeface they used was Din Condensed. I also like a few of the other Din fonts, so I have inserted a few of the Din typeface variations below.

Research on Fonts

For a title sequence, you of course need titles and for you titles to have the biggest impact they need to be carefully thought through. Now to avoid losing marks for a simplistic and basic title sequence we have decided not to use the basic default fonts for any of our titles.

As a group we are struggling to all agree on one font that suits the opening sequence. So I have decided to do some more detailed research of the different styles of font that we could possible use for the title sequence.
Due to the fact that we have drawn inspiration from the film "Anuvahood" previously I chose to start with that. The typeface for the title "Anuvahood" is Gill Kayo, and for the rest of the title sequence the typeface Futura is used. Both of the fonts are shown below. Gill KayoFutura
Next I looked at "The Streets of San Francisco". Even though it's a TV Drama and doesn't link to our genre the titles look like they could fit in with our title sequence. They have used the same typeface for both the title of the show and the rest of the title sequence, the typeface they used was Advertisers Gothic, which is shown below.

Advertisers Gothic

The third piece of research I looked at was the recent(ish) Channel 5 two-part documentary “Gangland”. I feel that there is a strong link between “Gangland” and my groups two-minute film opening despite the obvious dissimilarities. The typeface they have used for the title “Gangland” is Gotham Bold.

Establishing Shot Inspiration

The title sequence to West Side Story has given my group inspiration for on of our establishing shots that we're going to use for one of the titles for our title sequence. On our final film day we took some shots to mimic the way they have done it in West Side Story. Below is the title sequence we have taken inspiration from.....

Evaluation Questions

The questions that must be addressed in the evaluation:

1  In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

2  How does your media product represent particular social groups?

3  What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

4  Who would be the audience for your media product?

5  How did you attract/address your audience?

6  What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

7  Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Our Second Vlog

Yesterday, while filming our footage we filmed ourselves for our second vlog. In the vlog you can see us filming the car scene with some slight adjustments to the previous footage, we didn't however record ourselves while filming the establishing shots.

Last Film Day?!

Today we filmed more of our inside car scene as we felt it was not long enough before and we didn't have enough footage to extend it without filming again. We had quite a few complications today, however, as a team we overcame them by remembering the advice Dexter Fletcher gave us when we attended the AS Media Study Day at the BFI.
We also filmed as few more establishing shots. We did this so that while we're editing our title sequence for our two minute film opening we have a number of different shots so we have the option of which one to use for each title.

Our First Vlog

Yesterday morning my group and I filmed our first vlog, we decided to make it about the "Title" as we are still unsure of what we would like to call our film. The vlog is shown below:

Final Decision: Title Of Our Film

The title of our film is...
MADE IN THE ESTATE

As George mentions in our first vlog our main inspiration for naming our film this comes from the UK crime drama "Made in Britain" (1982). We feel as though the similarities between this film and our own are very strong and honestly we just like the feel of the name.

In addition to this the name "Made in the Estate" is a play on words in more ways than one, which has also been picked up by a few of our peers. Firstly, you could think that the title suggests the main character was born and raised in the estate. However, on the other hand the title could imply that what the dealers are producing is being made in the estate.

With all these reasons in mind we've decided that this title is perfect for our film as it compliments the plot and ideas we have for the remainder of the film.

Graffiti

One of our ideas for our title sequence is to have them on graffiti walls, so we went to a local community centre where they have graffiti on the surrounding walls. Below is some of the graffiti that is most relevant to our chosen film genre and plot.
We are mostly likely not going to use these specific graffiti walls but it has given us an idea of how our title sequence would look if we decide to use graffiti in our sequence.

Titles

For our title sequence I needed to do some research into which specific titles we would need to include. To do this research I turned to Art Of The Title where I found the title sequence for 22 Jump Street (http://www.artofthetitle.com/title/21-jump-street/) using this my group and I decided which titles we would use, I have listed them below:
  • Directed by Serine Houadef
  • Starring George Wilson and Ellie Childs
  • Cinematography by Mya Chopra-McFarlane
  • Written and Edited by Ellie Childs, Mya Chopra-McFarlane, Serine Houadef, George Wilson
We are still debating whether we should include the following titles:
  • Music Provided by......
  • Screenplay by......
  • Produced by......
